What Is SMART — and Why Do We Offer It?
SMART stands for Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Technique — a long name for a simple idea: stop decay gently, without drilling or numbing.
It’s not new, and it’s not a shortcut. SMART has been used worldwide, especially for patients who can’t tolerate conventional treatment. It combines silver diamine fluoride (to stop the bacteria) with a special glass filling (to seal the tooth).
We offer it for kids, seniors, patients with anxiety, or anyone looking for a lower-intervention approach. It’s not for every cavity — but for the right one, it works beautifully.
Here’s What No-Drill Really Means
Let’s be real — sometimes we do need to clean things out a bit before sealing it. But it’s nothing like the traditional drill experience.
Think of it more like a power toothbrush: gentle polishing to clear out the bad stuff. No shots. No numb face. Most people say, “That’s it?”
Then we use the SMART method to stop bacteria and protect the tooth with a clean, sealed layer. You’ll stay totally in control the entire time.
If at any point you’re not comfortable, we pause. Simple as that.
When SMART Isn’t the Right Fit
SMART is a great option — but it’s not for every situation. Some teeth need more structure, deeper treatment, or a stronger restoration than this method allows.
If we see something that needs more than what SMART can do, we’ll explain exactly what’s going on, why, and what your options are.
No pressure. No upsell. No scare tactics. Just a calm, honest conversation about what’s best for your tooth — and for you.
What Happens Next?
If SMART looks like a good option, we’ll talk through it with you and answer any questions — including what it costs.
You’ll know what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and what it means for your tooth — no surprises.
If another approach makes more sense, we’ll explain that too. Either way, you’ll leave with a clear plan and zero pressure.
What It Costs
Our no-drill SMART visit usually ranges from $160 to $240, depending on how many teeth we’re treating and how many X-rays we need.
This bundled fee includes:
- An exam to evaluate your tooth and confirm if SMART is the right fit
- Any necessary X-rays to properly diagnose the area
- The SMART treatment — using cavity-arresting medicine and a protective sealant if needed
It’s a one-visit solution to stop decay without drilling.
What if SMART isn’t an option?
If we find that a no-drill approach isn’t the right fit, you’ll still leave with answers and a clear treatment plan — and only pay $50 for the exam and X-rays. That way, your time is still well spent and nothing goes to waste.
Have insurance?
We’ll check your benefits first. If you're covered, we’ll itemize the visit and bill your plan as usual — your cost may be more or less depending on your coverage.
💡 Real treatment, no surprises.
Just clear pricing and honest answers.

Not Ready to Come In Yet? Try This First.
The most important thing: keep things clean.
- Brush with a high-fluoride toothpaste — it can help strengthen early decay
- Cut back on frequent sugar snacks (it feeds cavity bacteria)
- Try xylitol gum — it helps reduce cavity-causing bacteria
- Spit, don’t rinse after brushing — this keeps fluoride on your teeth longer
These tips can help slow things down — but if you’re already feeling discomfort or seeing discoloration, that’s your cue to let us take a look.
Still Not Sure? That’s Totally Normal.
Whether you’re just curious or finally ready to take care of a cavity — we’re here to help. No pressure. Just a calm, clear next step.
